About the project

HyRECM® (Hybrid Radio Enabled Composite Material) is Carbon Mobile’s patented breakthrough that enables carbon fiber to be used in wireless electronics. Traditionally, carbon fiber's electromagnetic shielding properties made it unsuitable for devices requiring signal transmission. HyRECM® overcomes this by integrating carbon fibers with complementary composites that permit radio signals to pass through, allowing for the creation of ultra-light, durable, and connected devices.

The solution

After four years of intensive research and development, Carbon Mobile engineered HyRECM® Technology to address the challenge of carbon fiber's signal-blocking nature. By fusing carbon fibers with radio-permeable composites, HyRECM® creates a monocoque structure that is both lightweight and structurally robust, without compromising connectivity. This innovation has paved the way for the development of devices like the Carbon 1 MK II smartphone, which is 33% lighter and 25% thinner than conventional smartphones.

This wasn’t just a material upgrade—it was a complete rethink of how electronics are built. HyRECM® allowed Carbon Mobile to eliminate metal skeletons inside devices, replacing them with a single structural shell made of carbon fiber composite. The result is thinner, lighter, and structurally superior hardware that still allows for 5G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity. It cracked a barrier that held back carbon fiber from entering the mainstream of mobile and wearable tech.
